Yamunotri is the birth place of river Yamuna.
To visit Yamunotri, we lodged in Barkot which was about two hours south by road. Our lodging was in tents. The inside however was closer to a hotel room, with beds and plumbing.
The hike to Yamunotri is about 6km long with an elevation gain of over 2000 feet.
The hike offered some gorgeous sites of green valleys, ice-covered slopes, and tall water falls.
The hike would have been world-class if it were not for loads of horse poop on the path (rain makes it worse), relentless solicitations for horse rides, and the path being crowded by many vendors. Nevertheless, I would consider the hike a great one.
